[ 49강 ] 기본문장과 수식어

영어공부의 대상은 "문장, Sentence" 이라고 한다.

가장 핵심적인 문장구조 하나를 예를 들면,

 

문장 = <기본문장> + [형용사적수식어] + [부사적수식어] 

문장 = <주절/5형식문형> + [종속절/ 수식어구들....]

문장 = (주어, 서술어, 목적어, 보어> + [종속절....]

 

 

 

이런 문장구조를 공부하는 이유는 대충 단어뜻만 조립해서 문장을 해석하려는

가짜 영어실력을 벗어나기 위함이다.

영어는 <앞에서 순서대로 해석하거나 이해하는 능력이 가장 기본이다>

그런 스킬을 익히는데 가장 중요한 포인트가 "문장의 동사, 서술어"에 대한 이해가 된다.

흔히 영어강사가 강조하듯이,

<동사를 보면 그 문장의 전체 구조가 확 머리속에 들어와야 한다.>

동사의 5가지 성질을 확실히 이해하고 형태적으로 정동사의 모습이 무엇인지 

빨리 알아채는 연습을 무지 많이 해야 한다.

 

동사를 보면 그 기본문장의 "5형식문형"이 이해된다. 

완전한 문장(기본문장)이 끝나면 그 다음에 올수 있는 것은 "수식어구, 종속절"뿐인 것이다.

그렇게 앞에서 뒤로, 덩어리 단위로 읽어 가는것이 영어를 읽는 기본적인 자세다.

"완전한 문장"을 판단하는 근거도 동사의 5개의 성질을 이해하는 능력에서 출발한다.

<기본문장>이 어디서 끝나는지 판단력이 생긴다면, 수식어구를 구별하는 감각을 발전시킬수 있다.

그렇게 앞에서 순서대로 읽는 능력을 키우는 것이 "구문독해", "패턴문법"을 공부하는 목적이다.

그래서 기본실력이 중요한 것이다.

문법책과 단어공부를 하면 답답한 마음이 앞선다.

하지만, 그런 기본적인 자료가 많이 머리속에 축적되어야 진짜 영어공부실력이 발전할수 있는 것이다.

너무 서둘러서 대충하는 공부는 절대로 실력으로 녹아들지는 않는 것이다.

 

 

 

[종속절]의 "첫단어"를 보고 그 종류를 판단하는 능력을 키우기 위해서

우리는 문법책을 공부하는 것이다.

부정사, 분사, 혹은 관계사나 접속사등을 눈으로 보고,

형용사인지, 부사인지 판단하는 감각을 키우는 훈련을 많이 하자.

The latest government figures show that incidents of Salmonella, the most common type of food poisoning, reached an all-time high last month, even higher than during the Salmonella-in-eggs scandal. In six hours in a warm environment four bugs in a moist sandwich will multiply to more than a million -- the danger level for causing illness. If kept under refrigeration, experts advise that sandwiches can be safely eaten within two days of being made. Most big shops stick to this. But the Daily Mirror found a Hampshire petrol station selling sandwiches with an' eat-by' date four days ahead. Poor hygiene and handling are also to blame for food poisoning.
